French Toast
Is French Toast still French Toast if it's made with Texas Toast in Arkansas?
Emmy absolutely loves French Toast. We don't have it often, and when we do, it's usually for dinner instead of breakfast. That's ok. We love breakfast for dinner at our house.
Ingredients
4 eggs
2/3 cup whole milk (I always use skim)
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
nutmeg (optional)
6-9 slices of Texas Toast
3 Tablespoons butter
powdered sugar
syrup
Instructions
In a small bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Slowly whisk in milk. Slowly whisk in eggs.
Pour batter into 9x13 pan.
Heat large griddle or skillet to medium/high heat. Add 1 Tablespoon butter.
While butter is melting, dip 2-3 slices of Texas Toast into the batter. Do not let it set. It will soak up too much batter and fall apart.
Place battered toast in skillet. Cook onto golden brown, flip, and cook the other side to golden brown.
Cook in batches of 2-3, adding butter as needed.
Serve with powdered sugar and syrup.
Ideas
If your butter begins to brown or smoke, your skillet is too hot.
